Welcome to our site operated by the National Judicial Council (NJC). This site was created so that those interested in the activities of NJC have access to information and news about it quickly and directly from the source. NJC is the supervising body of the central administration of courts. It embodies judicial self-management and self-regulation in the Hungarian jurisdiction, thus, it is the highest level public body of the judiciary, a branch of power independent from the executive and legislative powers.
We believe and we work for that efficient checks and balances are and will be able to guarantee that accountable branches of power mutually respect the independence of each other, and that judges can perform judicial activities impartially and objectively and on a highly professional level, perform judiciary activities effectively and in time, ensuring fair trials and equality before the law.
According to the Fundamental Law of Hungary, NJC supervises the central administration of the courts, and participates in the administration of the courts.
The duties of NJC are defined by the cardinal act on the organisation and administration of courts (Act CLXI of 2011) in the following areas: operation of the general central administration, budget issues, statistical data collection and workload measurement, human resource and training.
„The central responsibilities of the administration of the courts shall be performed by the President of the National Office for the Judiciary. The National Judicial Council shall supervise the central administration of the courts.”
